Relationship Counseling

Partner Work

For relationships that need a deeper level of care and healing, I guide partners to observe and identify relational patterns from the past in service of understanding what is occurring in the present moment. Relationship counseling is multi-dimensional work, adapted to provide care for relationships across all stages.

Relationship counseling can help partners develop empathy, self and co-regulation skills, and resilience in the face of major stressors such as attachment trauma, life transitions, betrayal, physical illness, and sexual health challenges.

My trauma informed approach is guided by extensive training in the Developmental Model for Couples Therapy and PACT Model (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy). I use the tools from these models to help partners learn and practice the skills necessary for greater intimacy, differentiation, and security in relationships. I also weave aspects from my psychodynamic, contemplative, and spiritual training into partner work.

Relationship counseling sessions include embodied co-regulation and attunement practices, psychodrama exercises, structured emotional processing, and relational repair dialogues among others.

Sessions are a minimum of 75 minutes.

Some common reasons partners begin relationship counseling:

  • Recurrent cycles of conflict: “We get stuck in the same fight over and over again.”
  • Insecure dynamics (fear of intimacy, codependence, ambivalence about intimacy): “When I come close, she moves further away.”
  • Betrayal of an agreement: “I can’t imagine how we move forward.”
  • Lack of agreements, recurrent boundary ruptures: “I do all the…they never do…”
  • Sexual/Erotic stagnation/difficulties: “It’s been months since they even came near me.””I’m not even sure how to move towards her anymore.”
  • Pervasive sense of distance in the relationship: “We’ve just grown apart, it’s gotten cold and dry here.”
  • Discernment about the future of the relationship: “How do we know if we should stay together?”

Partner Intensives

For partners looking for retreat style work, I offer personalized relationship counseling intensives.

Partner intensives are recommended for:

  • partners interested in deepening a piece of their current relational work
  • partners curious about integrating more somatic practices into their toolkits
  • relationships in need of repair following a crisis or a significant rupture
  • relationships preparing for an upcoming major transition such as a birth or nesting
  • partners with logistical barriers to attending regularly scheduled sessions
  • long distance relationships in need of some focused attention

Intensives are a minimum of 3.5 hours and can be up to 14 hours over an entire weekend.

I support partners to find care and sweetness, even in the most difficult conversations.

Relationship Coaching

For anyone in relationship (romantic partners, friends, platonic partners, family members) seeking to elevate their existing relationship skills and work towards a shared intention. Coaching sessions are structured to keep people grounded in the here and now of their relationship. Sessions can include embodied contemplative practices, relationship skill building exercises, rituals, improvisation exercises, and structured dialogue processes.

Relationship coaching sessions can provide short-term structured support to address a shared intention during a major transition or following a rupture.

Unlike counseling, coaching sessions are not appropriate for relationships that are navigating major mental health challenges, complex trauma, substance use, or interpersonal violence.

Relationship coaching can address intentions such as:

  • improving communication skills
  • repairing a rupture or conflict
  • leveling up conflict skills
  • exploring patterns of stagnation in sexual and erotic energies
  • learning to negotiate, acknowledge, and appreciate differences
  • working with different attachment styles and needs effectively
  • co-creating agreements for ethical non-monogamy (ENM)
  • co-creating agreements for relationship changes (e.g. un-coupling/friend break up/family estrangement)

As a coach, I joyfully hold folks accountable in their work towards a more liberated, nourishing, and loving relationship.

Co-Parent Coaching

I love supporting relationships as they evolve through times of change. I provide a grounded presence and structured space for co-parents and step parents alike to work together in service of their family’s healing. Together, coparents  build relational skills in service of bringing more stability and harmony to the whole family system.

Co-parent coaching is usually short term (6-12 months), but can be resumed in the future as new co-parenting intention, needs, or conflicts arise.

I require that all co-parents be engaged in their own healing outside of the co-parent coaching space (i.e. psychotherapy, spiritual counseling, divorce mediation).
